Bensalem, PA – Pennsylvania-breds were in the spotlight on Sunday at Parx Racing with a pair of restricted state-bred races – the $100,000 Unique Bella Stakes and the $100,000 Page McKenney Handicap.
Carmelina, one of three horses in the six-horse field for trainer Robert “Butch” Reid, Jr. delivered as the favorite in the $100,000 Unique Bella Stakes with a front-running victory under Paco Lopez. Stablemates Confirmed Star and Disco Ebo finished second and fourth.
Carmelina, owned by Cash is King LLC and LC Racing LLC, is a four-year-old daughter of Maximus Mischief bred by Lilith Boucher and earned her seventh career victory. She is two for two this year since returning off of a six-month layoff.
Houghton Shuffle, a homebred five-year-old son of Medallist for owner Melissa Houghton, sat off the pace and made his stakes debut a winning one under jockey David Cora in the $100,000 Page McKenney Handicap.
