PARX ADDS STAKE FOR 3YO FILLIES SEPTEMBER 3RD Cathryn Sophia to Prep for Cotillion

Looking for a race before a monumental matchup with champion filly Songbird, Cash is King’s Grade I winner Cathryn Sophia will have an opportunity now for her tune up over the Parx surface as the track has announced the addition of a stake to an already loaded card at Parx on Saturday, September 3rd. Plans for that date already include five stakes for state-breds as part of the track’s annual Pennsylvania’s Day at the Races.

Director of Racing Sam Elliott has written the $150,000 Princess of Sylmar Stakes, a one mile main track race for three year-old fillies to be run three weeks prior to the $1 million Grade I Cotillion Stakes scheduled for Saturday, September 24th. It is expected that the currently undefeated Songbird will headline the Cotillion and the new stake will allow the perfect scenario for Cathryn Sophia to be at her best when she takes on the champ.

“We’re looking forward to it,” said trainer John Servis. “It’s still a ways off and we hope all goes well up to that point, but it gives us a chance to get a race over the track before the Cotillion.”

Cathryn Sophia has been one of the top fillies in her division all season, winning two Grade 2 races at Gulfstream earlier this year, the Forward Gal and the Davona Dale, and then backing up those performances with her signature win of the season, a sensational effort to win the G1 Kentucky Oaks May 6th at Churchill Downs.
